The semi was carrying seven new Volkswagen Jettas when the driver saw that the right rear brake of the trailer had caught fire.

The driver pulled over onto the shoulder near mile marker 319, not far from the St. Augustine Outlet Mall and tried to extinguish the fire, but was unsuccessful.

A truck pulling a trailer of cars caught fire Thursday afternoon, closing a section of southbound Highway 99 in Keyes.

The driver of the truck reportedly saw smoke coming from the back of the trailer. He pulled over and grabbed a fire extinguisher but by the time he got to the fire, it had already spread.

That section of southbound Highway 99 was closed for just over an hour, and opened up again shortly after 2 p.m.

The story offered with the picture was that the driver forgot to pin the deck and it collapsed on the lower car. In my opinion that does not match the picture.Car Carrier Opps_crop
