These trucks were built by TTE (Stuart) to comply with 45 foot overall length restriction in effect in most Eastern states in the 1950's. Although the headramp extended back over the front of the trailer, that part of the trailer was open for travel. As the front of the tractor rose on inclines, the rear of the head ramp dipped down into the trailer just in front of the car's windshield and above the rear of the hood. The clearence problem wasn't any worse that todays rigs.
