Auto transporter catches fire in Kentucky

This happened early this morning I-71 North was shut down at the 57 mile marker

Judging by the color it looks like its a Jack cooper rig? Really looks like it started on the trailer axles. Maybe meritor?

A great job by all saves a car hauler

The Montoursville fire dept got a call to respond to an apparent axle fire on a car hauler. When they arrived the driver already had the two cars over the trailer axes off loaded allowing the fire dept to put the fire out. Some quick work by the driver in combination with a quick response by the fire crew saved this truck and the cars on it.

“Thu, Oct 27th, 2011 11:13 am – About midday the 20 house was alerted to a fire
reported from a truck hauling cars in the area of Fairfield Road on I-180. First arriving units found smoke from the rear
axle and the operator of the hauler offloading new cars. The Rescue-Engine stretched the bumper line
and was able to keep the problem contained to the area of origin.”

Car hauler rolls and then burns in Toledo

The Toledo Blade is reporting a car carrier has rolled and then burned on the turnpike. The driver suffered only minor injuries. The truck looks to be reduced to scrap metal but that is what insurance is for I guess.

Was the Jacksonville fire another axle bearing? Who’s truck was it? Obviously I have more questions than I have answers.

The advertiser is reporting an AutoLogic fire:

FIREFIGHTERS fought to control a blaze at the side of the road yesterday afternoon after a car transporter went up in flames on the A19. The driver steered the vehicle to the side of the southbound carriageway, near the slip road for Easington, east Durham, shortly after 4pm, before escaping unhurt. The road was reopened within 30 minutes after firefighters extinguished the blaze. Keith Taylor, who captured the dramatic image, said: “We arrived just after the vehicle had burst into flames. The driver got out safely, but he looked visibly shocked. “I was really concerned it was going to blow up.”

Fire destroys new car load in Canada

I wonder if this is another Meritor axle on the recall list? The story on Metro News specifically states the investigators are blaming an overheated wheel bearing as the cause. I happened in a remote area so the fire crew could not save the load. Speedloader sent in a link to another article about the same fire. Apparently these two trucks left a bit ahead of him out of the same terminal.

AXLE FIRE

This was loaded up on you tube by a passing car, so I don’t have any more info. Maybe a Meritor axle?

NEWS 10 has a report on one of Central Valley’s truck hitting a bridge pillar after blowing a left front steer tire. The article states that the driver kicked out the driver’s side window to escape the burning truck along with the passenger. It also says that both of them sustained major injuries. They actually kicked out the passenger side window to escape and are both home and sore but doing fine. Apparently the window was sturdy and at this point the sore foot from kicking the window is the worst injury!

What kind of sports car is that in the belly position?

Big Sky auto transport yard fire

For Don Kirkhart, owner of Big Sky Auto Transport, the fire behind his business caused quite the scare.

“Yeah, it was pretty scary. We were trying to put it out. It started back here by some old cars parked on the corner back here and we tried to put it out but it just kind of took off, got into the grass. So I just called 911 right away,” Kirkhart tells NewsChannel 5.

Loaded car carrier stolen

CBS Atlanta is reporting on a theft of a car carrier. The thieves apparently are experienced with the operation of a carrier. After unloading the truck they set the cab on fire.
