Blown tire causes broken axle?

According to this article the authorities think that a blown tire caused a broken axle:

KMOV) — Traffic on eastbound I-70 in Foristell, Missouri is backed-up after an accident involving a tractor-trailer that caught fire.

It happened around 9 a.m. on Tuesday on I-70 near the St. Charles County/Warren County line.

Authorities said a car hauler headed eastbound on I-70 blew a tire that caused an axle to break and another tire to blow. As a result a fire broke out on the hauler that destroyed four band new Ford Fusion cars. Eastbound 70 was shut down for approximately an hour and a half.

According to the The Stewart Houston Times a car hauler caught on fire at about 6 p.m. on March 18, ultimately setting the nearby woods on fire as well, according to Stewart County Fire & Rescue District Chief Rick Sheets. Sheets said that the driver of the hauler was uninjured. Sheets said it spread to the nearby woods, but Forestry doused that blaze.

Santa Barbara County firefighters put out flames on Highway 154 after a car carrier catches fire.

Fire crews found a car carrier towing four vehicles that was fully involved. Firefighters knocked down the fire quickly and saved the four vehicles.

However, the tow vehicle could not be saved. No one was hurt.

I found this on the Salt Lake Tribune:

A car-hauler semitrailer burned on Interstate 15 in southern Utah early Friday morning, police said.

The driver pulled over about 3 a.m. when his truck shut down as he drove north on Interstate 15 near New Harmony in Washington County, said Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden.

The engine started on fire after he pulled over, and the blaze grew to engulf all nine used vehicles on board and the truck itself.

The fire shut down a portion of I-95 for several hours, putting traffic at a standstill.

“A car pointed at my back on the trailer. I thought it was just a tire so I pulled over,” says truck driver Vernard Monroe, but it wasn’t just a tire.

Monroe says as soon as he pulled over, he heard an explosion and saw flames shooting out of the trailer his cab was pulling. “I grabbed the fire extinguisher, tried to put it out.”
