CHARLTON — State troopers and Department of Transportation officials are investigating a mishap in which a vehicle reportedly fell off a car carrier this morning and hit the Depot Road Bridge on the westbound side of the Massachusetts Turnpike.

No one was hurt, according to state police. The vehicles involved in the mishap are off the road, and it is open to traffic, police said.

State police are investigating why the car fell off the carrier, and state transportation officials inspected the bridge for damage.

Auto transporter catches fire in Kentucky

This happened early this morning I-71 North was shut down at the 57 mile marker

Judging by the color it looks like its a Jack cooper rig? Really looks like it started on the trailer axles. Maybe meritor?

Auto transporter gets hit hard in driver door.

DARKE CO., Ohio —

Two people were injured in collision between a truck and semi in Darke County Thursday night.

The crash happened around 8:33 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 127 and State Route 185.

Deputies, along with fire and rescue crews from Ansonia were called to the scene. Careflight was also called.

According to deputies, their preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Dodge truck, driven by Joseph Fortkamp, 35, of Rossburg, was traveling west on Route 185 and failed to yield at a stop sign.

Investigators said Fortkamp drove into the intersection and slammed into a semi that was driven by Robert Baker, 59, of Ludlow Falls. The semi was hauling seven new Chevrolet pickup trucks and came to a stop in the on Route 127, blocking the intersection.

Fortkamp was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight, where he is listed in critical condition. Baker was taken to Wayne Health Care in Greenville and then later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

Bridge spikes a van into the pavement.

DALLAS – Westbound lanes on Interstate 30 were reopened early this morning after a smash-up near St. Francis Avenue.

A car hauler was passing under the bridge, but couldn’t clear it, hitting the nose of a van on top of the hauler. The van tumbled from the hauler, causing a mess for cleanup crews.

Part of the interstate around the bridge was closed for about an hour as TxDOT crews inspected the bridge and clean-up was under way.

No one was hurt and the bridge is intact.

Violent auto transport crash in NZ

There were no injuries but the damage to the trailer and its 8-car load looks extensive. There are a bunch of news reports online but the one with the best pictures is stuff.co.nz. The driver apparently clipped the shoulder of the road and lost control. I’m not sure what the tie down regulations are like there but notice that some of the cars are completely free of the carrier. Also the impact looks like it was hard enough to tear the upper rear deck completely off of the trailer!

A great job by all saves a car hauler

The Montoursville fire dept got a call to respond to an apparent axle fire on a car hauler. When they arrived the driver already had the two cars over the trailer axes off loaded allowing the fire dept to put the fire out. Some quick work by the driver in combination with a quick response by the fire crew saved this truck and the cars on it.

“Thu, Oct 27th, 2011 11:13 am – About midday the 20 house was alerted to a fire
reported from a truck hauling cars in the area of Fairfield Road on I-180. First arriving units found smoke from the rear
axle and the operator of the hauler offloading new cars. The Rescue-Engine stretched the bumper line
and was able to keep the problem contained to the area of origin.”

Car hauler rolls and then burns in Toledo

The Toledo Blade is reporting a car carrier has rolled and then burned on the turnpike. The driver suffered only minor injuries. The truck looks to be reduced to scrap metal but that is what insurance is for I guess.

15ft load meets 14ft bridge.

An auto transporter in Indianapolis had two pickup trucks knocked off of his load by a 14 ft bridge. I am not sure why he was so high. Looking at the pictures it looks like he has a car of some sort on the bottom in the back. I’m wondering if it was the next vehicle in that was so high.
